Saiwa Swamp National Park

Kenya’s smallest national park, Saiwa Swamp is a sanctuary for the rare sitatunga antelope and diverse wetland birds. Elevated boardwalks provide excellent viewing of the swamp ecosystem. It’s ideal for birdwatchers and nature lovers looking for a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path experience.

Ruma National Park

Located in western Kenya, Ruma is the only sanctuary for the endangered roan antelope in Kenya. The park features rolling hills, open savannah, and acacia thickets. It also hosts giraffes, hyenas, leopards, and rich birdlife including the rare blue swallow.

Shaba National Reserve

Shaba lies east of Samburu and is known for its dramatic landscapes of volcanic rock, springs, and acacia woodland. It’s famed as the location where Joy Adamson released Penny the leopard. Wildlife includes leopards, cheetahs, and abundant birdlife. It’s quieter than Samburu, perfect for intimate safari experiences.

Buffalo Springs National Reserve

Adjacent to Samburu, Buffalo Springs offers a similar landscape and wildlife but is typically less crowded. It has natural springs, palm groves, and acacia woodlands. The park is a haven for elephants, lions, and unique northern species. Birdwatchers and photographers especially enjoy its tranquil setting.
